Contributing Analyst

Ryan Matsumoto is a Contributing Analyst with Inside Elections, which provides nonpartisan analysis of campaigns for Senate, House, governor, and president. In particular, his work focuses on data-driven electoral analysis with an emphasis on demographic and geographic trends.

Ryan has also written articles for FiveThirtyEight, The New York Times' Upshot, NBC News, and The Hill. His work has been cited by CNN, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, The Brookings Institution, New York Magazine, and Vox. On election nights, he enjoys providing live analysis on Twitter @ryanmatsumoto1 and engaging with the broader Election Twitter community.

Ryan grew up in the New York area and later attended Stanford University, where he studied computer science and economics. As a junior, he participated in the Stanford in Washington program, where he interned on Capitol Hill in a leadership office. Beyond political analysis, Ryan works as a Developer Advocate at Google and is a dedicated half marathon runner. He currently lives in San Francisco, CA
